Antonia Lloyd-Jones’ lecture for CELA

On November 6th 2020, translator Antonia Lloyed-Jones held an important and interesting lecture on her craft for CELA’s RE-CONNECT online programme.

Authors and their translators don’t always come into contact, but they may have a lot to gain from getting to know each other. In this talk Antonia Lloyd-Jones, a literary translator from Polish into English, explains the benefits for both authors and translators of building relationships, and gives advice on how to do that to mutual advantage, while avoiding some potential pitfalls. Using examples from the experiences of authors and translators, Antonia offers some practical ideas on how they can help each other to: secure the interest of publishers; work together to produce the best possible translation; and jointly contribute to the promotion of their published work. The talk will last for an hour, followed by the opportunity to ask questions.
