The festival\u2019s evening program on the 16th and 17th of June was\u00a0 traditionally held in the amphitheater in front of the Museum of Yugoslavia (Boti\u0107eva 6), while the daily-debate programs were held on the 17th and 18th of June at the Center for Cultural Decontamination (Bir\u010daninova 21).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At this year\u2019s festival, the audience had\u00a0 the opportunity to see the famous Norwegian writer <\/span>Erlend Loe<\/b>, a favorite of the local literary scene. Thanks to his\u00a0 recognizable ironic literary style, Erlend Loe has, in a very short period, become a cult Norwegian writer, as well as one of the most recognizable European authors today, with his books being translated to more than twenty languages.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

From Prague, for the first sofa-interview of the KROKODIL Festival, we hosted\u00a0 Lordan Zafranovi\u0107, one of the most controversial and provocative film directors of the famous Prague school.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On the second festival night, we spoke to another film director whose work is closely connected to the Prague film school, Sr\u0111an Karanovi\u0107, about this work on film and television.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At this year\u2019s festival KROKODIL, we presented the writer and peace activist<\/span> Svetlana Slap\u0161ak,<\/b> the winner of this year\u2019s Vital award for her novel Ravnote\u017ea.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The\u00a0 recognized novelist and dramatist <\/span>Slobodan \u0160najder<\/b> read\u00a0 from his latest novel <\/span>Doba mjedi<\/span><\/i>, a great saga about the fate of <\/span>Volksdeutsch<\/span><\/i> community in the former Yugoslavia, for whom in 2016 he received the Me\u0161a Selimovi\u0107 award, one of the most important in the region.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ivan Ivanji, <\/b>who spent more than twenty years as Josip Broz Tito\u2019s German translator, read from his latest novel <\/span>Moj lepi \u017eivot u paklu<\/b>, in which he reflects on his life that began almost nine decades ago, in then Be\u010dkerek, and the experience he had as a sixteen year old Jewish boy at\u00a0 the Buchenwald death camp.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The novel <\/span>Pjeva\u010d u no\u0107i<\/b>, a sophisticated love story, and at the same time, a serious critique of all our fascisms and fear of freedom, was\u00a0 written by award winning prose author and poet Olja Savi\u010devi\u0107 Ivan\u010devi\u0107, another participant of this year\u2019s festival KROKODIL. This novel was recently published in Serbia and the author presented this work as well as her poetry collection, Mamasafari.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lamija Begagi\u0107 <\/b>is one of the most renowned young authors from Bosnia and Herzegovina. At this year\u2019s festival KROKODIL she presented her first novel <\/span>U zoni<\/b>, a story about the life of a professional sportswoman who ends her career at the age of 35 and the new world she tries to create around her and in her.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Zoran Feri\u0107<\/b> read\u00a0 from his\u00a0 novel <\/span>Na osami pored mora <\/b>which\u00a0 deals with maturation and eroticism of the adulthood of Yugoslav hedonistic socialism. Feric\u2019s latest novel in Serbia was published by the publishing house Booka.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As a part of this year\u2019s festival, we also presented <\/span>Ogledala Lune<\/b>, a book about one of the most significant bands of the early 80s, which is finally giving this music band its well deserved position. Apart from Slobodan Ti\u0161ma, the front-man and singer of the band, writer and NIN Award winner, the\u00a0 authors Goran Tarla\u0107, Predrag Buca Popovi\u0107 and Sa\u0161a Rakezi\u0107 will also discuss\u00a0 the book.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As a part of his\u00a0 lecture, <\/span>Aleksandar Zograf <\/b>took\u00a0 us through the world of small discoveries (<\/span>Mala otkri\u0107a<\/i><\/b>) which is the title of his latest collection of short, poetic and documentary comics he regularly draws for the magazine Vreme.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We also took a look back at the work of <\/span>Biljana Jovanovi\u0107,<\/b> one of the pioneers of feminist Yugoslav literature of the seventies and her recently republished cult novels <\/span>Pada Avala <\/b>and <\/span>Psi i ostali.<\/b><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

KROKODIL\u2019s residence program for writers<\/b> has been active since 2012 and so far has hosted 55 writers from eighteen countries. Through a conversation with our current guest at\u00a0 the residency, the\u00a0 young Croatian author <\/span>Sven Popovi\u0107<\/b>, we focused\u00a0 on the importance of this program for continuous cultural exchange not only within the region but also across the whole of Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Along with\u00a0 sofa-interviews, performances, readings, as well as musical and acting performances, festival KROKODIL organized again this year various debates during which we tackled the most current socio-political topics from the perspective of arts and culture. <\/span>The debate program was\u00a0 held on the 17<\/b>th<\/b> and 18<\/b>th<\/b> of June at the Center for Cultural Decontamination in Belgrade.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>For the third consecutive year, the festival had\u00a0 a humanitarian character. The partner for this year\u2019s KROKODIL festival\u00a0 is <\/span>Hemofarm foundation<\/b>, with whom we teamed up in 2016 regarding the project <\/span>PRODU\u017dI \u017dIVOT<\/b>, with the goal of raising awareness of the importance of organ transplantation and donation. This year, we will draw attention to the necessity of organ donation and invite festival-goers to sign donor cards.<\/span><\/p>\n
