What is\nit about?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ULYSSES\u2019\nSHELTER: BUILDING WRITERS-IN-RESIDENCE NETWORK is the second stage of a project\nco-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. The network\nof literary residencies has now been extended to five European countries. The\nproject and its residency network are designed primarily for young writers\n(prose and\/or poetry) and literary translators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nliterary residency programme will take place on the island Mljet (Croatia), in\nLjubljana (Slovenia), in Larissa (Greece), in Belgrade (Serbia) and several\nlocations in Wales (UK). The residency programme focuses on transnational\nmobility and audience development, and will allow young authors and translators\nto work, perform and present themselves in two different social and cultural\ncontexts. The residencies can bring new opportunities and possibilities to establish\ncontact with other authors, translators, editors, publishers and\/or\nrepresentatives of various literary organisations from Croatia, Slovenia,\nSerbia, UK, and Greece. The residencies will be accompanied by a rich\nsupporting programme consisting of literature-related activities aimed at\nspecific (local) target groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nthematic subject of the first year of the Ulysses’ Shelter 2 project concerning\nall the residents chosen in this call is Library<\/strong> – both as a physical\nspace and a virtual database of important and relevant data for any social,\ncultural or artistic context. Along with the development of the International\nLibrary of Poetry connected with the Mljet residence as a part of Ulysses’\nShelter project, the residents will be invited to reflect on the importance of\nlibrary as one of the most important symbols and monuments of peace and mutual\nhuman understanding by contributing a poem, an essay, a blog entry or a\ntranslation relating to the subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is eligible\nto apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Applicants\nmust be writers (prose and\/or poetry) or literary translators <\/p>\n\n\n\n

–\nApplicants must have at least two books of their own work or of literary\ntranslation published<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Applicants\nmust be no older than 40 (maximum age must be 40 years on deadline date)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–\nApplicants must be Croatian citizens<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–\nApplicants must have advanced knowledge of English<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–\nApplicants must be able to travel to two of the five participating countries,\nbased on personal interest<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Applicants\nmust be able to go to two residencies in one year<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–\nApplicants must be open to collaborate and work with other artists and partners<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–\nApplicants must write an entry for the ULYSSES\u2019 SHELTER website Tovar.hr during\ntheir residency<\/p>\n\n\n\n

–\nApplicants should be interested in fostering a relationship with the local\naudience <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is\noffered?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Two\nresidencies in two different countries during one year<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– An introduction\nsession, artist talk or other events\/workshops<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Support\nfor the resident <\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Promoting\nresidents on the ULYSSES\u2019 SHELTER social media accounts, newsletter, and\nwebsite Tovar.hr, as well as on all partners\u2019 social media accounts, newsletters,\nand websites<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Networking\npossibilities and international visibility<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Covered\naccommodation and travel expenses (economy class)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– Fee (400\nEUR gross including all taxes) and Subsistence (gross 300 EUR in Croatia,\nGreece, Serbia, Slovenia; 500 EUR in Wales)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– A\nfantastic opportunity for an ambitious young writer or translator to benefit\nfrom a unique experience which can strengthen their career, to create a work, do\nthe necessary research, as well as experiment and take on a new direction in\ntheir writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOTE: To\nbe considered for the residency programme applicants must meet all eligibility\ncriteria.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are\nthe submission requirements?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Motivational letter that includes an explanation of why the applicant\nwants to visit specific residencies and a plan of what they want to work on\nwhile there, e.g. working on a new novel, short story or poetry collection,\ntranslation, etc. (no longer than one page)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Selection\nCommittee, consisting of three members who are experts in the field, will\nsuggest three applicants from Serbia<\/strong> to participate in the residency\nprogramme during 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results\nwill be announced on the project\u2019s and partners\u2019 websites and social media at\nthe beginning of December 2019<\/strong>. The selected applicants will also\nreceive a direct email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
