And what is their connection with writers whose surnames are Bogdanović, Pavićević, Kovač, Mehmedinović, Matvejević, Slapšak, Hemon, Krleža, Drndić, and Kiš? What kind of conspiracy are they involved in? What kind of action are they calling us to?

Based on texts published in the Common Library (Zajednička čitaonica) edition, this exciting mixture of voices was created, a linguistic and artistic polyphony, proving convincingly that, although today we find ourselves divided into several different countries, we are not strangers to each other. Because there are no passports in literature. The bonds that exist between us all, which rest on the common social property both of language and of a great literary heritage, are much stronger than the destructive forces that in the past few decades have produced more evil than we ever could have imagined. This evil is discussed in The Conspirators, as is a conspiracy for a different, better future. Literature has a key place in this, because imagination is more important to us today than ever before. Readers and viewers, who speak, use, create, and breathe in a common language and to whom it solely belongs, wherever they are, are invited to an adventure of reading, discovering, and thinking. This is an expression of tenacity of optimism and firm belief that the bonds on which the literary republic in the European South rest, will live on.

Despite and against.

*The play The Conspirators is part of the Common Library project initiated and implemented by the KROKODIL Association.

Wednesday, 6 December 18:00 Belgrade Drama Theatre, Mileševska 64a The staged reading of the play The Conspirators, written by Igor Štiks and Vladimir Arsenijević and directed by Boris Liješević, will be held on Wednesday, 6 December at 18:00 on the Predrag Pepi Laković stage at…

[4,208
