Human rights organizations from Serbia strongly support the adoption of the United Nations resolution proclaiming July 11th as the ‘International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The facts about the Srebrenica genocide, as well as its legal qualification, have been unequivocally confirmed by judgments of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals. The first genocide conviction for Srebrenica was handed down to the commander of the Drina Corps of the Army of Republika Srpska, Radislav Krsti\u0107, in April 2004. Others convicted of genocide include Vujadin Popovi\u0107, Ljubi\u0161a Beara, Drago Nikoli\u0107, Zdravko Tolimir, as well as the former President of Republika Srpska, Radovan Karad\u017ei\u0107, and the wartime commander of the Army of Republika Srpska, Ratko Mladi\u0107, who were sentenced to life imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We call on the Government and President of the Republic of Serbia to support the proclamation of July 11th as the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide and to discontinue the practice of celebrating convicted war criminals, as well as denying the crimes, victims, and judgments of international courts. By doing so, Serbia would take a decisive step towards reconciliation in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
