The hearing will be livestreamed and we invite you to follow it via this link:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/x0T9q4U4KaM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/x0T9q4U4KaM<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants at the hearing, held by the Assembly\u2019s Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>* Iain Cameron, Member of the Venice Commission (Sweden), Rapporteur for its \u201cReport on a rule of law and human rights compliant regulation of spyware\u201d, adopted on 6-7 December 2024 (online)<br>* Andreu Van den Eynde, lawyer, Spain<br>* Du\u0161an Poku\u0161evski, Program Director at the Belgrade Center for Human Rights, Serbia<br>* Milena Beri\u0107, Executive Director of the Association KROKODIL, Serbia<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We remind you that in a December 2024&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/pace.coe.int\/en\/news\/9728\/pace-monitor-expresses-deep-concern-at-the-surveillance-of-serbian-journalists-and-activists\">statement<\/a>, the PACE monitor for Serbia Axel Sch\u00e4fer (Germany, SOC) expressed deep concern at recent revelations concerning the surveillance of Serbian journalists and activists by Serbian police and intelligence services, following Amnesty International\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>&nbsp;on the misuse of spyware and mobile forensic products by Serbian authorities to unlawfully target activists and journalists. Amnesty International\u2019s report, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amnesty.org\/en\/latest\/news\/2024\/12\/serbia-authorities-using-spyware-and-cellebrite-forensic-extraction-tools-to-hack-journalists-and-activists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A Digital Prison: Surveillance and the Suppression of Civil Society in Serbia<\/a>,\u201d released in December last year, detailed how mobile forensic products were used to extract data from journalists and activists\u2019 mobile devices, and in some cases enabled the infection of those phones with spyware.&nbsp;This digital surveillance in Serbia is taking place amid ongoing anti-government demonstrations and persistent harassment of civil society critical of the authorities.
