29 Oct Danish-Norwegian author Susanne Christensen is the 150th guest of the KROKODIL Residency Program for Literary Creators in Belgrade
Susanne Christensen will, together with students of Scandinavian Studies at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade, comment on the translation of her works, and share her experiences with literary critics – all within the framework of a workshop to be held at the KROKODIL Center (Karađorđeva 43) on November 6th at 4 p.m.
Susanne Christensen (born 1969) is a Danish-Norwegian literary critic and essayist. For more than fifteen years, she has been a literary critic for the Norwegian daily newspapers Klassekampen and Morgenbladet. Today, she mainly writes for the Norwegian literary magazine Vagant.no. In 2011, she was proclaimed Critic of the Year, and in the same year, she published a collection of essays titled “The Wollen Avantgarde” by the publishing house Flamme forlag in Oslo.
In 2025, her first novel was published, which achieved great success. The novel is called “Svalene sover på månen” (in English: “The Swifts Sleep on the Moon”). It follows the writer Teo and the time he spends with his mother before her passing. Teo is an environmentally conscious enthusiast, and in her novels, she explores the world of house sparrows living in the wall above her apartment. She purchases a strange device resembling a bird online, which promises to establish contact with the dead. The novel combines genres of autofiction, essay, and art critique, and is presented as a rare form of science-fiction magical realism.
We look forward to the workshop and to meeting Suzan Kristensen, our 150th guest of the residency program for literary creators in Belgrade!
Susanne Christensen’s stay has been made possible with the support of the Norwegian Embassy and NORLA.
