Krokodil Festival 2022 in Novi Sad within the European Capital of Culture Novi Sad 2022

Krokodil Festival 2022 in Novi Sad within the European Capital of Culture Novi Sad 2022

The Novi Sad edition of the debate program of the XIV KROKODIL Festival will be held on June 23 and 24 2022, under the name “On the margins” as part of one of the programme arches entitled “Fortress of Peace” of Novi Sad 2022 – European Capital of Culture project.

In the new Chinatown which has been reconstructed for this occasion and is now called the Creative District, KROKODIL will present its three popular discussion formats: Debate on Europe, Gigantomachy and Sofa Interview.

Miljenko Jergović, Ivan Krastev, Ivan Vejvoda, Igor Štiks, Biljana Srbljanović, Ljubica Gojgić, Florian Bieber are just some of the participants who will tackle the topics of living in conflict and post-conflict zones of Europe, fight for women’s rights under different forms of patriarchy, the relationship between urbanism and politics, the dialectic of objective and subjective violence, the ethics of nonviolent resistance and the world future after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The great success of the first Belgrade Debate on Europe in 2014, but also the further deepening of the European crisis that followed, initiated the incorporation of the “Debate on Europe” in the annual program of KROKODIL Festival as well as a platform for regular gatherings of intellectuals from all over the European continent with the aim to open discussions on burning issues of Europe’s past, present and future. The “Novi Sad Debate on Europe”, whose goal is to nurture the heterogeneity of voices and standpoints in the broadest European context, will articulate burning topics such as “A new witch hunt”, “OK Boomer!”, “Where does Europe end in the East”, etc.

The “Gigantomachy” format is conceived in such a way that two participants confront their opinions on a certain burning topic, such as: “Rethinking of existence on the margins”, “Where are we heading?”, “New utopias and what about them?”. This format takes place without moderation or mediation, and participants in three fifteen-minute rounds alternately present their three-minute replicas.

Both evenings will be closed with the popular KROKODIL format “Sofa Interview”. It is a one-on-one conversation with some of the most eminent regional and European authors, intellectuals, and thinkers of today.

The language of the panel program will be English. Simultaneous translation is planned, as well as live stream via the Krokodil Engaging Words YouTube channel.

The project is co-financed by the Novi Sad 2021 Foundation.
