OPEN CALL FOR LITERARY RESIDENCY PROGRAM IN BELGRADE FOR AUTHORS FROM SWEDEN

OPEN CALL FOR LITERARY RESIDENCY PROGRAM IN BELGRADE FOR AUTHORS FROM SWEDEN

Association KROKODIL is launching a call for applications for its Writer-in-residence program. KROKODIL’s Writer-in-residence started in 2012 as the first residential program in Serbia intended primarily for writers, translators and other literary creators. During the 13 years of its continuous existence, the program has hosted more than one hundred and forty-five literary creators from over twenty European countries and it continues to grow.

Authors from Sweden are invited to apply for the residency program within the project Centers of Periphery 2.0, to spend 1 month in Belgrade. 6 residency grants in total are planned for the years 2025 and 2026. The resident writers will be expected to contribute to workshops, public readings, and other events that will be organized during their stay, in agreement with the host organization. Residency recipients will be provided with a fully equipped apartment and awarded a residency stipend. Travel costs will also be covered.

We are welcoming applications from both young and emerging, as well as more established authors. Eligibility criteria to be met by applicants:

  • to have at least one published literary work
  • to be legal residents of the Kingdom of Sweden

Your application should contain:

  • CV and a letter of motivation (both in English);
  • short sample from your published literary work (in the original language);
  • Preferred months of residency (In 2025: October and December; in 2026: January, February, March, April, May, June) – please indicate at least two.

The deadline for submitting the application is August 31, 2025 at 23:59 CET. Applications should be sent to: prijave@krokodil.rs

If you have any additional questions or need any further clarification about the application process, please email us at prijave@krokodil.rs

Centers of Periphery 2.0 is a cultural and knowledge exchange project developed by Littfest and Association KROKODIL, aimed at strengthening the ties between Swedish and Serbian cultural scenes and developing a strong basis for collaboration; promoting democratic values, freedom of expression, and human rights through literary exchange; amplifying peripheral and/or underrepresented voices and creating opportunities for dialogue. The project activities will include two gatherings of literary professionals in Belgrade and Gothenburg in 2025 and a festival exchange between KROKODIL and Littfest in 2026, as well as six monthly residential stays for literary creators from Sweden in Belgrade, Serbia including public events and meetings with relevant literary and cultural stakeholders. The project seeks to facilitate literary exchange from these two peripheral European regions by providing platforms for discussing critical issues such as democracy, human rights, and freedom of expression as well as contemporary literary expressions of these essential values.

The project is supported by the Swedish Institute.
